Teenage Girls at Highest Risk ...

Off to School Self-Defense for Mothers and Daughters at YMCA

Teenage Girls at Highest Risk!!

Twin Falls - In response to the recent scare around sexual assault against women in Twin Falls and to help prepare young women heading off to school (This information will be particularly timely as girls return to school and many travel away from home for the first time unsupervised and “socializing” many parents are uncomfortable with this pattern and would like some tools to keep their daughters safe) ; Success Martial Arts Senior Instructor Brian Higgins has partnered with the Twin Falls YMCA to offer a special reduced tuition (it is usually a $100 program; this special opportunity is only $25) session of In The Zone at the Canyon Rim YMCA Facility at 10am on Saturday, August 23rd.

“In The Zone” is unique. Unlike run of the mill self-defense programs, this innovative approach teaches fear management techniques and how to deal with the instinctive “fight or flight” response. Coach Higgins call it "From Eeeeeeeek to Grrrrrrrrrrr"

One big benefit of the course is its short duration high impact format. Course clients also wear casual or active– not martial arts– attire. The course covers the psychological aspects of “adrenaline stress,” the common characteristic that accompanies emotionally charged experiences. Clients learn, first and foremost, how to avoid and prevent a confrontation; effective conflict de-escalation approaches; and when all else fails, how to defend themselves against an all out assault.

A few statistics :
Teenage Girls are the most frequent victims of sexual assault.
Two-thirds of imprisoned sexual assault offenders reported that their victims were younger than age 18.
Sixty-one percent of all rape victims are younger than 18 years of age.
Thirty-two percent of all rape victims are 11-17 years of age. The average victim of abduction and murder is an 11 year old girl described as a “low risk” “normal kid” from a stable family. Her initial contact with an abductor is within a quarter mile of her home.

In The Zone is a personal safety and protection program that is intended to fight these frightening statistics.

While violent crime is at an all time low, violence against teens continues to be rampant as 1 in 5 teens will be victims of a violent crime this year. How are parents protecting their teen children against assault.

Higgins is uniquely suited to sharing this specific topic with teen-age girls as a product of his extensive martial arts experience and, his career in juvenile detention dealing with underage victims and offenders on a daily basis for over six years. In that environment one learns to relate to youth in a way that will educate them without turning them off or preaching
