FREE Anti-Abduction Clinic

Free Anti-Abduction Training for Children
Twin Falls - In an effort to make children in the Magic Valley safer, Success Martial Arts will be conducting a FREE forty five minute personal safety and anti-abduction seminar for children ages 6 -12 on Tuesday May 19th at 4:30 PM at Success Martial Arts, 1300 Kimberly Road.
Each year, there are more than 114,000 attempted abductions of children by non-family members. The U.S. Department of Justice further provides:
• 797,500 children (younger than 18) were reported missing in a one-year period of time studied resulting in an average of 2,185 children being reported missing each day.
• 203,900 children were the victims of family abductions.
• 58,200 children were the victims of non-family abductions.
• 115 children were the victims of “stereotypical” kidnaping – crimes which involve someone the child does not know or someone of slight acquaintance, who holds the child overnight, transports the child 50 miles or more, kills the child, demands ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently.
This training aims to give children a fighting chance against physically abusive adults, and sexual predators by increasing their awareness about potentially dangerous situations. The interactive session will feature role playing scenarios in which children learn the best responses to danger, including how to get away, how to keep an adult from taking you anywhere, and the best ways to get help. The class will also introduce children to some of the physical resistance techniques they can use to protect themselves in case of unavoidable danger.
“Kids will be out and about for much of the day, with little to no adult supervision, in many cases, all summer long.” senior instructor Brian Higgins commented “There are dangerous adults in our community who would like to do our children great harm, given the chance. I don’t want them to have that chance. I want every child in the Magic Valley to have the very best tools available, to keep themselves out of harms way this summer.”
